Feeding the hungry
The Breakfast Effect (BE) is a program that provides students with a hot breakfast before they head to class. Thousands of children in rural Uganda are severely malnourished and for many impoverished families in Wakisi, the BE is the only meal they can count on.

The BE is more than just feeding hungry kids. It has a far greater impact on the community.
  • All the cooking supplies are purchased from market vendors helping sustain the local economy.
  • Employment is created for cooks, truck drivers, security guards and food suppliers.
  • Students perform better in class which improves the overall learning experience.

So, what's on the menu?
A homemade protein porridge (like a hearty bowl of Quaker Oats) that is loaded with essential nutrients. Sweet biscuits are also available which contain starches, sugars and fat to provide needed weight gain.

Doing the math
Each breakfast feeding costs roughly $100 USD and provides a meal for more than 400 children. According to our calculations, that's money well spent!
